Why Make Your Own Gasket?

OEM gaskets can cost $30-$200 and take days to ship. If you have the right template, gasket material, and a sharp blade, you can make a perfect gasket in 30 minutes for under $5 in materials.

What You Need

• Gasket material (appropriate thickness for your application)
• Sharp utility knife or gasket punch set
• Ruler and straight edge
• Bolt punch or hole punch set

• Tape and a flat work surface

Step 1: Print the Template

Download your gasket template PDF from PunchMapPro. Print it at 100% scale — do not use 'fit to page.' Use the 1-inch calibration square on the template to verify your printer is printing at true scale.

Step 2: Transfer the Pattern

Tape the template to your gasket material. Use a sharp scribe or pin to mark all bolt hole centers through the paper into the material. Trace the outer and inner contours with a sharp pencil.

Step 3: Cut the Gasket

Using a sharp utility knife, carefully cut along the outer contour. For bolt holes, use a gasket punch set matched to the hole size. For larger openings, cut carefully with the knife following your traced line.

Step 4: Test Fit and Install

Place the gasket on the engine surface to verify fit. All bolt holes should align. The gasket should sit flat without any gaps. Apply gasket sealer if required for your application, then torque bolts to spec.
